Homestead, Fla. Couple Celebrates 63rd Anniversary

An excerpt of the article as seen in the South Dade News Leader - February 4, 2011 - is below:

Local Couple Celebrates 63rd Anniversary

The month of February has special significance for a pioneer couple in Homestead. It also has longevity and lasting love. Uniquely this year, Fred Maas, Sr. of Homestead turns 85 years young.

His bride, Kathleen (Kay) will be by his side as they celebrate 63 years of marriage together. With February being Valentine's Day month, it seems only fitting for this couple.

The Maas' family has been been residents of Homestead and Redland since 1952. They have worshipped at the same church, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, for all of those 59 years.

Their children, all 7 of them, attended local schools and several still maintain residence and workplace in Homestead. Their lives together have been enriched by the friendship and support of many other pioneer families of Homestead.

On February 5, 2011, their 7 children, 23 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren will all come together for a celebration of life and love, recognizing their 63 years together and to mark Fred's 85th birthday.

"All in all, we consider ourselves very fortunate in that all seven children have developed into productive citizens and caring human beings. What more could you ask for as a parent?" said Fred Sr., the patriarch of the family.

"We are very grateful for all our longtime friends and fellow parishioners," said Kay Maas. "Their support over the years was a great help during challenging times."
